The use of testate amoebae in studies of peatland hydrology and palaeohydrology has been increasing, and
considerable efforts have been made over the past decade to standardise techniques as much as possible. In
this article we briefly describe the common procedures used to collect, prepare and analyse testate amoebae
in peat-based studies of palaeohydrology and palaeoclimatology. Although specific methods are dependent
on the questions and objectives of individual studies, the methods presented here should serve as a good
starting point for peatland palaeoenvironmental applications.

Abstrakt: Przedmiotem opracowania było torfowisko mszarne zlokalizowane w północnej Polsce. W okresie od czerwca 2006 roku do stycznia 2007 roku prowadzone były obserwacje poziomu wody gruntowej na torfowisku „Linje” przy pomocy piezometrów sporządzonych z rur PCV. Jednocześnie była rejestrowana wysokość opadów atmosferycznych, temperatura oraz wilgotność powietrza.

Abstract Analyses of testate amoebae, macrofossils and pollen have been used to study the development of a small mire in the Jura Mountains. The water table of the mire increased after AD 1300 and reached a maximum AD 1850-1950. The mire vegetation AD 1300-1700 was characterised by ferns, Caltha and Vaccinium, but around AD 1700 it changed into the modern vegetation characterised by Cyperaceae, Potentilla and Sphagnum.

Torfowisko Żabieniec jest położone w obrębie Wzniesień Łódzkich, około 25 km na wschód od Łodzi (ryc. 1). Znajduje się w obniżeniu o genezie wytopiskowej, które powstało w schyłku zlodowacenia warty (Balwierz i in. 2002, 2007, Forysiak, Twardy 2006, Żurek i in. 2007). Jest to torfowisko kotłowe o niewielkiej, około 2, 5 ha powierzchni, zajmujące środkową część wytopiska, otoczone kilkunastoma kopalnymi, głębokimi zagłębieniami o jeszcze mniejszej skali.

Abstract The study was aimed at determining age of the trees growing on the cupola of the Stàýki raised bog, at elucidating anthropogenic influences on the water level in the bog, and at exploring effects of climatic factors on the Scots pine tree-ring growth. Samples were collected, with Pressler s bores, from 22 Scots pines and from a single downy birch. Tree-ring widths, measured to 0.01 mm, were used to compile based on the classic dating methods 143-year-long (1862-2004) ST chronologies.
